Some handy 90s based info...

So, you've seen what's in store for you on BFBS Radio and you've scrolled this far... so let's make it worth your while with some useful information from the 1990s...

The Internet went mainstream
The creation of the World Wide Web in 1989 led to a boom in the 90s meaning that, by the end of the decade, millions were going online for the first time. Imagine a world without the internet?? Also, does anyone else remember that dial up tone?

Britpop defined UK music culture
Bands like Oasis and Blur dominated the charts during the decade and their rivalry became a major cultural moment. Which camp were you in?

DVDs replaced VHS
DVDs launched in the late 90s and quickly became the new standard for home entertainment - this meant a heartfelt goodbye to VHS!

Mobile phones became popular
Early devices like the Nokia 3310 made mobiles mainstream and texting (or SMS as the kids would say) took off during this time - none of this predictive text, GIFs or emojis though!

The Spice Girls sparked β€œGirl Power”
The group became, quite simply, a global phenomenon and whilst their music was listened to by millions, they also helped push the message of female empowerment.

Gaming entered a new era
The introduction of consoles like the Sony PlayStation revolutionised gaming and 3D graphics became the new standard - anyone remember the first time they played Tomb Raider??

Reality TV began to rise
Shows like Big Brother (launched in 1999) started a genre that would dominate the 2000s and even today - does anyone remember Nasty Nick from the first Big Brother? Sensational TV viewing.

And now... for some stats...
