RAF dogs lead the way on charity march

20 March 2011 | England  By Shirley Swain  British Forces News

It wasn’t just about putting their best foot forward, but their paws as well, after a team of RAF police and their military working dogs completed a 37-mile walk through the night to raise money for a forces charity and a children’s hospice.

Carrying 20-kilo bergens and replica guns the group set off from Tedworth House in Tidworth to march over Salisbury Plain, via a route that would take them through Wootten Bassett and finishing up at their base at RAF Lyneham.

The team included Sgt Guy Wilmshurst, Cpl Gareth Scutt, Cpl Chris Archard, Cpl Adele Roberts and Cpl Gary 'Tony' Blair - all helping to raise more than £14,000 for Help for Heroes and Children's Hospice South West.

It all took place over the weekend and BFBS’s Shirley Swain met up with the group in the newly named Royal Wootten Bassett, some nine hours after the start of the challenge Saturday morning.
